Police at the cordon of the south side of London Bridge have confirmed that there is ‘more than one fatality’.

A van mowed down a number of pedestrians on London Bridge this evening, and two other incidents were reported throughout London.

Witnesses have said they heard police firing into Brindisa Tapas in Borough Market, not far away from the earlier incident on the bridge.

Another witness at the scene of the London Bridge attack reported hearing ‘tremendous gunfire’ that lasted for ‘quite a few minutes’.

BBC reporter Holly Jones was on the bridge at the time of the incident and gave BBC News an eye-witness report, saying the van was driven by a man and was “probably travelling at about 50 miles an hour”.

Minutes after being breifed, Trump sent a tweet that appeared to exploit the London tragedy by claiming that his “Muslim travel ban,” which has been deemed unconstitutional by federal courts, was needed “as an extra level of safety.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said it was an “horrific terrorist attack”.

He added: “The situation is still unfolding and I would ask all Londoners and visitors to our city to remain calm and vigilant.

“We don’t yet know the full details, but this was a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners and visitors to our city enjoying their Saturday night. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

Witnesses report hearing gunshots in the Borough Market area while one social media user has posted a photograph appearing to show one of the attackers, with what seemed to be canisters strapped to his body lying on the ground.
